Judo (柔道) is the contemporary Japanese art of grappling developed by Kano Jigoro in the late 19th century. Its historical roots lay in ancient jujutsu traditions and it is both an Australian University Games and Olympic sport.
Judo trains both stand-up and ground based techniques, with an emphasis on randori, or free practice, to explore the understanding of the art and to prepare individuals for competition.
The Club is not currently running regular Judo training sessions in Toowoomba, and instead we encourage those interested to train with our friends at the Pittsworth Judo Club. In the Bundaberg region, we encourage people to train with our sister Club, the Gin Gin Judo Club. BBRD actively supports the Judo Queensland, and the development of a competitive squad for the Australian University Games.
If you are a suitably Judo Queensland qualified Judo coach and interested in running a class on campus at USQ Toowoomba, please have a look at our outline of how to start a class with us, and directly contact Michael Baczynski.
Judo is an official Australian University Games sport. While a small Club we have experienced success at the 2011, 2013, and 2017 AUG.
